Greenbank & Seagrave Pastoral Charge 5th Sunday After Epiphany Welcome Thank you: Shirley Hooker, Tara Taylor, Cheryl Quantrill, Val Hunter, The Combined Choir, Jubilation Choir, Juli and Richard for sending out the services via email, All you for joining us and all of you who have sent in pictures. WE GATHER TOGETHER Territorial Acknowledgement; We take a moment as we begin our service today, to acknowledge that we are all on land that is considered a sacred gift from the Creator. This land has been a place of sustenance and spirituality since time immemorial. The Ancestors of the Original People of this country welcomed the settlers and taught them how to survive the harsh winters and thrive off the land. We are thankful for the hospitality and the stewardship of the First People of Turtle Island. We also take a moment to acknowledge that there has been great hurt and damage done in the past to Indigenous communities and culture, knowing we cannot change the past we commit to do our part to help create a better future. Let u s be an active ally in the work of truth and reconciliation, as we do what we can to live in right relations with each other, loving and respecting each other as Jesus taught. Lighting of The Christ Candle: As we focus on the light of this candle, let us draw our attention to the light that illuminates our path forward as seekers of justice, equity, and love for all. May the light of Christ burn ever so bright in your hearts, that all who meet you may feel the warmth and be energized by the glow. Opening Prayer; Gracious God, who see every one of us as beloved, we bring our whole selves into this time of worship today. May we be open to all that you wish for us. May our minds absorb the wisdom in your teaching, may our hearts be cracked open to the love in your presence. May our time in this sacred space encourage and enliven us to live out Christ’s way, the way of Love, Justice and equity for all. With humble and contrite hearts we pray the in Jesus name. Passing of Peace Children's Time: A Conversation with Opal Music Ministry: “Just A Closer Walk with Thee” Jubilation Choir Minute For Mission: Tara Taylor Blessing of Offerings and gifts; God, we give thanks for your loving servants who give as they are able to support the transformative work of the church. They have given their time, talents, and gifts, God bless these gifts and their use. Amen WE LISTEN TO GOD’S WORD; Scripture Reading: Cheryl Quantrill Mark 1:29-39 29 As soon as they[a] left the synagogue, they entered the house of Simon and Andrew, with James and John. 30 Now Simon’s mother-in-law was in bed with a fever, and they told him about her at once. 31 He came and took her by the hand and lifted her up. Then the fever left her, and she began to serve them. 32 That evening, at sunset, they brought to him all who were sick or possessed with demons. 33 And the whole city was gathered around the door. 34 And he cured many who were sick with various diseases, and cast out many demons; and he would not permit the demons to speak, because they knew him. 35 In the morning, while it was still very dark, he got up and went out to a deserted place, and there he prayed. 36 And Simon and his companions hunted for him. 37 When they found him, they said to him, “Everyone is searching for you.” 38 He answered, “Let us go on to the neighboring towns, so that I may proclaim the message there also; for that is what I came out to do.” 39 And he went throughout Galilee, proclaiming the message in their synagogues and casting out demons. Most gracious and loving God, we remember the struggles of your people, black people, people of African descent, thank you for your grace, your love, and your mercy. We thank you for leaders that you continue to place in high places and ordinary places. Inspire each of us to work more faithfully for justice and dignity of life everywhere. Lord God, we remember the hurts of exclusion and prejudice, but we know that you can raise our vision above all barriers and give us wisdom and courage to make this a better world. Let us take a moment in silence and offer up our personal prayers of thanksgiving and to offer up the cares and concerns we hold in our hearts… Now let us join together and pray; God who’s Love is like our Mother and Our Father, who art in heaven Hallowed be thy name Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven, Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and forever. Amen Closing & Benediction Closing Coral Let There Be Peace on Earth Let there be peace on earth And let it begin with me; Let there be peace on earth The peace that was meant to be. With God our Creator, Family, all are we, Let us walk with each other In perfect harmony. Let peace begin with me, Let this be the moment now; With every step I take, Let this be my solemn vow; To take each moment and live each moment In peace eternal. Let there be peace on earth And let it begin with me.
